Craigslist, “Pre-Sales,” and Rummages

I’m a little late to the game, but now that rummage sale season is almost over I realized that I need a fall/winter wardrobe for C.  I’ve been perusing Craigslist a lot and have been seeing some things that confuzzle me.  Yes, confuzzle.  ;)

First of all, what is with people having indoor sales in their basements now?  No, I do not want to come over and dig through bins of baby clothes in your basement while you murder me with an ice pick.

Second, when did people start having pre-sales before their rummage sales?  I didn’t think I needed to call and set up a time to look over your stuff the day before your actual garage sale.  Ridiculous.

One final note – if your pictures turn out blurry or there’s a big finger in front of the clothes because you don’t know how to take a picture, please for the love just retake the picture.  I’m not going to buy clothes from you if I can’t see what I’m getting.

Have you had luck finding baby/toddler clothes at rummage sales?

Okay, Kristin, I’ve been pondering where to go with these ridiculous craigslist listings. Ready?

“8am -12 unless it gets too hot or rains ”
“We’re getting started at 7 a.m. on Friday; we’ll close it down on Friday when things slow down ”
or my personal favorite, “We’ll be open Friday or Saturday unless it is too hot or it rains, then we’ll be open Saturday until it slows down.”

Yes, the last one is for real, it is not a combination of the two above.

It is unbelievable to me how many people say “until it gets too hot.” Now I know it’s hot in Texas, but if you live in Texas, you have a pretty good idea about what time it gets “too hot,” so for the love of whatever, SET A CLOSING TIME. And then, DON’T close 15 minutes earlier and say to me when I arrive, “Well, I JUST closed.” Could you have posted that on your ad that you were closed so I didn’t drive across town?

Do sellers really have people show up for these sales?

Sorry, I just had to vent…

It could be a fun thread to list the crazy listings on craigslist. And yes, THANK YOU, Sweetheart, for not going into someone’s basement so they can kill you with an ice pick!
