When Hubster and I signed up for a 10k early this spring, it seemed like the race was so far in the future. I can’t believe that we will be running our first 10k on Saturday! The past two months of training have had its ups and downs, but I’ve found my groove and my ideal post-run routine. As someone who is involved in a love affair with her Keurig, it’s no surprise that K-cups are involved. I’ve been brewing iced tea as part of my post-run routine!
I found these Vitamin Burst K-cups at Walmart. While rewarding myself for my hard work, I can also get in some extra vitamins to replenish my body. Baby Jo grabbed as many boxes as she could off of that shelf. She added some iced coffee to the cart. I think my girl has good taste.
I drink a large glass of water and get my recovery snack of choice ready while it brews. Since I don’t have a cold cup that fits under my cute Keurig Mini, I brew it first in a mug and then pour it into my plastic cold cup filled with ice. It’s even easier with a regular-size Keurig. You can watch a video on how to make iced coffee and tea here.
Beverage in hand, I stretch my muscles and refuel with a banana. That iced tea is ridiculously refreshing and cools me down from the inside out. I stay active after my runs so my muscles don’t tense up, but that’s pretty easy to do with two active toddlers.
As for that iced coffee that Baby Jo stealthily added to the cart, we decided to brew it over ice for Hubster. We discovered that if we brew the smallest cup in our Keurig, we get the maximum flavor. Hubster will only drink cold coffee and is excited to be able to use our Keurig for brewing over ice. These K-cups are the perfect gift for Father’s Day! I’ve been more focused on living green and am happy to report that those K-cups don’t need to end up in a landfill. Keurig’s Grounds to Grow program allows you to return used cups for processing that separates grounds for compost and plastics for reuse.
I’m excited and anxious for our 10k on Saturday. I think we’ll have fun running together. My training has taught me a lot about my endurance and pushing my limits. In fact, I’ve enjoyed it so much that we signed up for a half marathon in September! There are a lot of long runs in my near future. Good thing I never tire of this gorgeous trail!
