The temporary nature of all our former homes deterred me from doing much decorating. It felt pointless to spend time and money on a place that wasn’t really a home. Even if I had found the perfect pieces for those apartments, it’s unlikely they would have found their perfect place in our future home. I’m enjoying the process of decorating our first home exactly how we want it. Browsing online sales (hello, Zulily addiction!), meandering through craft stores and daydreaming about the colors and items that make me feel most at peace.
What type of decor makes you feel most inspired or at peace? I’ve discovered that I love rustic farmhouse decor. If you’ve ever seen an episode of Fixer Upper on HGTV, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about! I’d be in heaven if I ever visited Chip and Joanna’s Magnolia Market.
There’s something about a weathered item that draws me in. Reclaimed wood has lived an entire life before walking into mine. It makes me wonder about the life it had before, the structure that it may have held up, the people who sat and gazed at it.
We didn’t put a television in our living room. It’s my quiet sitting room. My happy place. The gray and turquoise are soothing, the light gleaming in the large window is relaxing. This room is kept free of toys and clutter (most of the time!). I go here with my coffee in the morning. I lie here in the evening when I need a quick few minutes of chill-out time after dinner.
Do you have a favorite room? What do you keep in it that makes you happy?
