It was that late winter snow – heavy, wet, and not much left of it. It was the perfect kind of packing snow. The kids decided to make a snowman. They worked together to roll the heavy snow, then packed extra snow in between to keep each part in place. C declared it, “Sticky Splatter the Snowman!” Both kids erupted in laughter. I stood back a little to breathe in the moment. Teamwork. Joy.
With two children with special needs, our family life is chaotic, noisy and stressful. It often feels like there are more challenging moments than moments of bliss. But, this? This was pure childhood joy. C and Jo chased each other with snowballs poised to strike. Their eyes danced with excitement. Squeals of happiness echoed through the air. They ran until their little legs were tired, their cheeks rosy.
Shower time is their time to calm down. I trust The Honest Company bath and body products on their sensitive skin. I talk to each of them about their days. They show me any “new moves,” they learned from friends at therapy. Jo, in particular, loves to show off her dance moves and tough girl kicks. We read books together. We make silly faces and make each other laugh.
Honest moments like these are what I cherish most about motherhood. What are some of your favorite moments?
