Courage is my focus this year. I am intentionally stepping out of my comfort zone to strive for my goals. Sometimes I am my own worst enemy! Do you hold yourself back? I’ve let anxiety and deep fear stemming from past life events keep me in the safety of my “box.” I am turning 30 this year and it is time to shine. It is time to show myself what I am capable of accomplishing! There are specific ways I’m being more courageous – and you can do it, too. Here are six easy ways to be courageous this year:
Build your confidence by doing something for yourself each day
Find what you love to do and make time for that each day. I am working on half marathon training, so I am moving closer each day with a run/walk, cross-training, or eating well.
Throw away old things you’ve been holding onto
This means my tattered old yoga pants and the flannel pajama pants with the hole in the crotch. More importantly, it also means emotional baggage from my early 20s that has affected me far too long.
Share your goals with someone you trust
Vulnerability is difficult for me. In a revealing moment of honesty, I shared my goals with my husband. It feels good to say them out loud to another person. Saying it aloud makes the goals real and actionable.
Try something (healthy) that scares you
Without being self-destructive, find something that scares you and go for it. I am training for a marathon relay with family in May. It scares me a little. I’m the slowest person on the team! But, we’re doing this for fun and I have a goal.
Hold yourself accountable
Check in with yourself daily, weekly, and/or monthly. Are you following the steps required to meet your goals? If not, what changes will you make to get there?
Join a new group of interest
Want to learn more about cake decorating? Take a class at your local craft store. Need to build your tribe of support? Find a support group in your area and go to a meeting. I signed up for a small group at my church that will challenge me to address some things in my life.
We can do hard things! Let’s take this year to challenge ourselves with things outside of our comfort zones. We are capable of far more than we think. What are your goals this year? What do you want to let go of? What new thing do you want to try that scares you a little? Let’s get it!
