Pregnancy Cravings: Racine Kringles

I didn’t realize that this was such a regional thing, because I grew up in metro-Milwaukee (not far from Racine).  I can’t find these delicious beauties anywhere near where we live, and it’s driving me bananas!  My taste buds/hormones are dreaming of having some Almond Racine Kringle in my mouth immediately.  This craving is killing me softly (I had this same craving with C, too!).

Thankfully, I found some while visiting Hubster’s family for our Christmas celebration.  SO YUMMY.

I'm not even ashamed! ;)

My Post-Baby Indulgence Wish List

Every once in a while, I get a craving for something that’s a big “no-no” during pregnancy.  I’ve added several things to my list during the holidays, when delicious food and beverages abound.

I look forward to hearing some of your post-pregnancy must-haves!  Here are mine:

  • spicy tuna roll
  • Philadelphia roll
  • moscato
  • Corona with lime
  • sangria
  • grande (CAFFEINATED!) mocha Frappuccino with a shot of raspberry
  • chocolate ice cream (currently an aversion)
  • a bacon and egg breakfast (also aversions)
  • SALAD!  (My favorite food that has been a major aversion.)

Raspberry Nostalgia

I’ve been craving raspberries often with Baby Deuce.  Whenever I pop one of those delicious berries into my mouth (never without checking the inside for a worm, of course), it brings back memories of sneaking raspberries with the neighbor kids in their grandparents’ raspberry patch.  Those raspberries, fresh from the vine, were the best in the world.

Cinnamon Roll Disappointment

Ever get really excited to make something, but it doesn’t turn out like you hoped?  I made some cinnamon rolls this morning (admittedly, they came from one of those tubes found in the refrigerated aisle).  They smell absolutely amazing and I was so looking forward to enjoying one.  Unfortunately, they smell about 50 times better than they taste.  Yet, I somehow managed to go on a crazy pregnant lady binge and eat almost all the tops off of them.  You know, the good part with the icing.

Oops.

Craving Creativity

I LOVE sushi rolls.  LOVE them.  I’ve really missed them since getting pregnant.  California Rolls help dull the cravings for raw sushi, but I still cannot wait to scarf down a spicy tuna roll.

Tonight, I had to get creative because I didn’t have any crab, avocado or cucumber in the house.  I ended up making a cream cheese roll and dressing it up with some spicy sauce.  But I’ll still be dreaming about this:

Craving Confession: Starburst

I had a killer craving for Starburst this afternoon and all but forced the Hubster to go buy me some.  Ever wonderful and devoted, he did.  I proceeded to eat WAY too many of them.  I feel like I’m going to be ravaged with cavities from the sugar, but at the same time…I don’t really care!

Weekly Update

32 weeks, 1 day

Size of baby: Honeydew (19 in., 4.5 lbs)

Newly craved food: Hot dogs, mint chocolate chip ice cream

Food aversions: Beef, fried foods

What do you miss:  Over the past week or so, I was missing my friends and family who all live 5-6+ hours away.  We saw them over the Christmas/New Year’s holidays, but will not be making another trip to see them until at least Memorial Day weekend.  (We moved to another state over the summer.)

What are you looking forward to: Getting this kid outta me!!  ;)

What was the BEST part of last week? Spending Saturday hanging out with Hubster.  We went to a baby expo and won a basket filled with childrens’ toys!  Won’t be able to use them for a few years, but it was still exciting :)

What was the WORST part of last week?  Having a hard time falling asleep at night because Baby C moves so much.  Waking up yelling in pain one night due to a leg cramp, which I haven’t had since December.

A little grainy, apparently my hand wasn't steady enough this morning!

Hunger?

I thought pregnancy – especially the 3rd trimester – brought a flurry of hunger?!  I almost wish that I felt hungry, because I don’t think I’m getting the recommended caloric intake.  I’m just never really hungry.  Most of the time I force myself to eat.  Tonight, I ended up getting lightheaded and realized that hypoglycemia was setting in.

Argh.
