When we lived on campus, decorating never interested me. The apartments felt institutional and temporary. Now that we have a home of our own, my inner DIY nut has blossomed. I like to add different home decor touches for each season and holiday throughout the year. With Valentine’s Day approaching, I created an easy DIY project that is perfect for the mantle, living room shadow boxes or to arrange as a centerpiece. These DIY gold milk bottle vases are a fun addition to your existing home decor.
My local craft store has an array of glass bottles that I love to browse. I selected four glass milk bottles. This gold spray paint promised the shiny look that I craved. In the sticker section, I discovered the perfect font for my bottles. At this point, I was undecided between bottles that spelled, “xoxo,” or, “love.” I chose to spell out, “love,” on my bottles. What the world needs now, is love, sweet love.
The weather rewarded me with an unseasonably warm day. I arranged the milk bottles on a piece of cardboard in my garage and sprayed them gold. I applied two coats for complete coverage.
Once they set, I brought them inside to dry completely overnight. If you live in a climate where it will be above 50 degrees overnight, you may leave them outside to dry.
Gently peel the stickers off the bottles. I’m an impatient person – gently peeling off the stickers was easily the most difficult step for me! Find the perfect home for your bottles and arrange them in order. Stick your favorite blooms in each vase and ta-da! A subtle Valentine’s Day piece that easily blends with your existing home decor.
