With my husband’s long work hours, a one-year old daughter, and a three-year-old son with special needs, I often feel like we’re two ships passing – or shuffling tiredly – in the night. We struggle to find time to communicate and we’re rarely alone. Our son climbs into bed with us so often that I wake in a panic if he’s not there by morning. As we struggle with the stress of work, a young family, and special needs parenting, we’ve discovered the importance of making our relationship a priority. We are scheduling more date nights and I surprised Hubster with this romantic date night scavenger hunt!
He came home for lunch while I was in the flurry of the kids’ bathtime. I heard him say, “What is this?” With bubbles up to my elbows and a shirt covered in bathwater, I called back, “Surprise!” I found him looking through his basket and trying to decipher my hand-drawn map.
I think this expression is, “Oh, silly wife!” Hey, I’m proud of that map. It was hastily created while I reminded C to color the paper – not the table, please – and Baby Jo applied purple marker to her face. I’m no artist, but I try! Thankfully, my parents volunteered to watch the kids one night so we could complete our adventure.
Can you decipher our date? Our first stop…
I’m so hungry, I could eat a reindeer! We stopped for dinner before a cheap movie at the budget cinema. Before kids, our go-to date night was dinner and a movie. The budget was a little bigger in those days, but there’s just as much fun to be had with some Wisconsin cheese curds and a cheap movie! After our movie, we went to a holiday light display.
One of my favorite holiday traditions is taking our hot cocoa and trolling the town for holiday lights. We “ooh” and “ah” over some and critique others. It always ends in laughter! The comfort of shared laughter is a perfect segue to the last stop of the night…back home to rekindle the passion in our relationship. I found this K-Y® Yours+Mine at Walmart in that aisle. You know the one – the aisle we all briskly walk down, grabbing what we need as quickly as possible while praying we don’t run into anyone. This personal lubricant is great for relationships, though, so grab some next time you’re racing down that aisle. Intimacy is important!
