A Bedtime Routine on Steroids

C’s bedtime routine tonight felt like it was out of a movie.  Hubster was working late, so I was flying solo.  We usually tag team it – not just for family bonding purposes.  C is quite a wild child and it usually requires both of us.

During my attempt to feed C his solids, he kicked the bowl out of my hand.  Carrot puree flew into the air and landed on every one of his extremities.

Bath time.  We ended up in an epic battle over the washcloth.  When did my 5-month-old gain the strength of eight men?

By the time the bath was over, both of us were soaking wet.  I brought him into the bedroom.  Just as I was putting on his diaper, he started peeing.  E.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e.  Guess I’ll have to wash that duvet cover sometime…

Time for his bottle!  That should have been the easy part.  He’s usually winding down for bed by the time we feed him his bottle.  Except he was so distracted.  Even though all of the lights were off, he kept looking over to the other side of the room.  Hubster once said that C must see Bruce Willis over there (a la The Sixth Sense).  Well tonight, C and Bruce were having an intense conversation.

When C finally finished his bottle, I quietly cheered because it was time to put him in his bed.  I cheered too soon.  His final hurrah was to spit up all over the both of us.

5 Things You’ll Never Miss About Pregnancy

1. The incessant need to pee.  Seriously, there were some days that I could have camped out in my bathroom.  But our bed didn’t fit.

2. Not being able to see your feet.  I don’t normally look down when I walk, but the ability to see your feet is sometimes very helpful in preventing stubbed toes…or when scaling a flight of stairs.

3. The inability to tie your shoes.  I gave up on normal-person shoes and wore slip-ons for my entire 3rd trimester.  It’s like trying to bend over a ginormous bowling ball that kicks.  Screw that.

4. The pregnant woman shuffle.  By the late 3rd trimester, your normal walk morphs into that of a penguin.  Sexy.

5. Feeling like a washed-up whale.  When you’re ready to deliver any day, you can barely move, and the world no longer creates a shirt large enough to cover your belly…well, that’s a feeling you simply won’t miss.
