Will Baby Deuce be a Boy or Girl?

I can’t stop thinking about Baby Deuce lately and how eager I am to find out if it’s a boy or a girl.  There are so many similarities to my pregnancy with C, but there’s also some distinct differences.

  • Craving McDonald’s sausage burritos for breakfast, and they seem to calm my stomach
  • Aversions to beef and fried foods (except french fries!)
  • Hyperemesis requiring Zofran, Unisom and vitamin B6
  • Belly growing low and straight out
  • Skin issues – dry patches, some breakouts
  • Inability to work with food/cook at all in the first trimester

  • Required twice the dose of Zofran that I was on with C
  • Constant strange taste in my mouth
  • Altered sense of smell – I always think I’m smelling a strange smell
  • Altered sense of taste – some things taste metallic, others just taste…different
  • Aversion to chocolate and coffee.  Yes!  I usually LOVE chocolate and coffee.

I don’t know what to think!  I’d absolutely love to have another boy so that C could have a brother close in age, and because their birthdays will only be about a week apart and we already have all the right clothes…  But because of the differences in the two pregnancies, I’m starting to wonder if this might be a girl.

Waiting for Labor is a Crash-Course in Patience

I’ve never been a patient person.  Waiting for labor is driving me completely insane.  I am now convinced (illogically, I admit) that Baby C is NEVER. COMING. OUT.  Good thing I didn’t get my hopes up yesterday when they told me I was probably dilating and labor would come soon…I had my appointment today and there was absolutely no change.  I’m still at 2.5cm.  His head is as low as it can get, so it’s no surprise that I feel like I’m holding a bowling ball in between my legs.

Not Getting My Hopes Up…

Had to call the doctor today due to some spotting with cramping and they said that I’m probably dilating and labor will be coming soon.   I have to say, I’ve heard that before and I am not getting my hopes up.  I really wish my doctor hadn’t told me about a month ago that she thought I’d be early.  I’m five days away from my due date (and I’ve passed the date that should really be my due date), and I’m starting to feel like we’ll have to go through an induction and smoke this baby out!

My Belly’s the Size of a Watermelon

I have a few different pregnancy apps on my iPhone, and for the past few weeks my baby’s size has been the equivalent of a watermelon.  This week, that watermelon is now between 6-9 lbs (goodness, I hope he’s not 9 lbs!).  I can definitely tell that my belly is huge, because it’s getting in the way quite often…

Pregnancy Does WHAT?! No Way!

When we announced we were expecting, there were some things that people described to me that I simply didn’t believe would happen…until I went through them.  Here’s my list of things that sound too weird to be true.  Feel free to add additional ones by commenting on this post!

Are You Kidding Me?!?!

So apparently it is possible for one to experience severe cramping and contractions day and night and yet make no progress toward labor.  Said contractions and cramping can be so bad that they stop one from moving or talking and also can continually wake one up at night.

Please Keep Your Hands and Feet Inside the Baby-Making Vessel

I can tell Baby is really running out of room in his temporary home.  He’s always been one to stretch out (that’s why they thought he may have been ginormous), but now that he’s getting bigger and stronger, it’s really getting uncomfortable for me.  I often have a foot or two sticking out just below my ribs.  He stretches his arms to put enormous pressure on my bladder.  Last night I tried to push his foot back in.  It kind of made me chuckle when he “listened” to me for a while, but then he won out and I had both feet sticking out of my belly.

What do you miss:  Over the past week or so, I was missing my friends and family who all live 5-6+ hours away.  We saw them over the Christmas/New Year’s holidays, but will not be making another trip to see them until at least Memorial Day weekend.  (We moved to another state over the summer.)

Tips to Relieve 7 Pregnancy Aches and Pains

In BabyCenter’s latest email blast, they sent out a link to this article on how to relieve a list of 7 pregnancy aches and pains.  I was happy to look at the list and realize I do NOT have several of the problems. :)

And if you’re struggling from severe low back pain like I am, here is a link on how to help relieve that.

Anyone else suffering from pubic bone pain?  Oh, the pain!  I’m staring at a dishwasher and dish rack filled with clean dishes to be put away, and I simply can’t bring myself to get up and walk across the room.  The pain and discomfort when I move positions, stand, or try to walk is insane.

I thought pregnancy – especially the 3rd trimester – brought a flurry of hunger?!  I almost wish that I felt hungry, because I don’t think I’m getting the recommended caloric intake.  I’m just never really hungry.  Most of the time I force myself to eat.  Tonight, I ended up getting lightheaded and realized that hypoglycemia was setting in.

Where has mine disappeared to?!  In my first attempt to get out of bed this morning, I moved slightly, pulled a groin muscle and yelped in pain.  It took me 20 minutes to work up the nerve to try to get up again.  Oy.

Have you found any stretches that have helped you with your flexibility?

Sleep, why must you elude me?

Sometimes I feel like I could sleep for days.  But then I go to bed and stare at the clock for hours upon hours, as my little boy bounces happily around in the womb.  I realize that this is probably God’s way of preparing me for being up often for nighttime feedings and such, but I am SO tired.

Preterm Labor Scare

At about 1:00 this morning, I suddenly had menstrual cramps and low back pain reminiscent of a bad period.  I was already laying in bed, so I figured I’d just keep trying to fall asleep and maybe they’d go away.  An hour later, they still were bad and keeping me awake so I decided to call my clinic’s 24-hour nurse line.  Their concern scared me a bit and they gave me the number of the birth center at the local hospital.  The nurse that I spoke with really freaked me out when she said that her gut reaction is that I need to come in immediately, but that I should consult the OBGYN on-call before doing so.  I was patched through to her shortly after 2am and she instructed me to drink lots of water and lay down to see if it would go away.  If it didn’t, I would need to come into the hospital.

Bra Shopping, the sequel

Back in November, I had a mortifying experience purchasing bras.  Little did I know that there would only be more shock and embarrassment to come.

Why did no one ever warn me that in the second and third trimesters, your rib cage expands to accommodate your increased lung capacity?  So now, not only has your cup size changed, but you may also need a larger band size?!  The horror.  Oh yeah, and none of the books that I read warned me that your boobs may start to leak in the third trimester.  The horror.

A Little Ribbing

My little man’s new way to poke at me is by rubbing up against the bottom of my ribs.  What a silly dude.

(This is the first image that came up when I searched “surprised pregnant woman” on Google.  It made me laugh, so I had to share!)

A Bladder Betrayal

The scene: a cold, Midwestern evening.  Sitting in my apartment, cruising the web and absent-mindedly watching Netflix.

Suddenly, I sneezed.  My eyes widen in horror, then well up with tears as I realize that my bladder has completely betrayed me – more than usual, that is.  Instead of a tiny leak, it’s time to go change my pants.  Dear Bladder, Why have you forsaken me?!?!?!

There are some things that are just not politically correct.  I’m usually someone who tries to be PC, but there are times when it just gets in the way.  I think the biggest non-PC thing that you can say about pregnancy is that you don’t enjoy being pregnant.

Leg Cramps

When I read about leg cramps in my pregnancy books, I was already several weeks past the point when it said they might begin.  I thought I was in the clear.  I was painfully mistaken.

The other night, I shot up in bed, screaming in pain as I was woken from a deep sleep with an excruciating cramp in my calf muscle.  My poor hubster had no idea what was going on.  All I could do was yell out in pain and grab at my muscle – which was hardened like a rock in the spot of the cramp.  In those moments, I thought I would not be able to straighten out my leg ever again.  Then it passed…but I was afraid to go to sleep again for fear of waking up in the same agony.
