Mikey

The way I see it, autism is a type of neurology. It is not something to keep secret, be ashamed of or hide. Autism is a part of our children and it makes them who they are. I decided shortly after C was diagnosed that we would be honest with him about his diagnosis. We wouldn’t hide this from him. When my mother-in-law gifted this book to C for his birthday, I was excited. “Mikey,” by Mindee Pinto and Judy Cohen, is a book about, “a day at school through the eyes of a child with autism.”

Review: Beauty Protector Hair Products

Disclosure: I received products for testing purposes in exchange for this review. The thoughts and opinions below are entirely my own.

For the first 25 years of my life, I had a love/hate relationship with my thick, curly hair. If it was cut incorrectly, I looked like a human Christmas tree. If it rained, it was Mount Frizz. I wanted to be able to grow my hair long without ending up with miserable knots. I wanted straight hair like my friends.

Lilla Rose Review and Giveaway

Disclosure: I received complimentary product for review purposes. The links below are to a family member’s Lilla Rose business.

I have a love-hate relationship with my hair. It’s thick, curly and unruly. When humidity strikes, I can either choose to look like a poof ball or put my hair up. The same old hair elastics get a little boring, though. Lilla Rose offers a line of pretty hair clips and jewelry to add some sparkle and fun to your look. Real Food Blends for Tubies

“One option is going to be a tube.”

Those words from C’s pediatric GI doctor took me by surprise. I knew my two-year-old was small. I knew he had severe feeding problems. I never imagined what life would have in store for us. Last year, C had a g-tube surgically placed and we started giving him four bottles of formula each day. His behavior was erratic. I noticed sugar highs and lows. I knew there had to be a better way to nourish him than to make him go through sugar crashes and fill him with artificial ingredients.

C’s feeding therapy group has been going really well. They’re exposing him to a lot of new foods, some of which he used to eat regularly but eliminated from his diet. One of those foods: apples. He likes to “make them crunch!” I can’t even explain the joy in my heart when he requests to eat apples!
