Real Food Blends for Tubies

“One option is going to be a tube.”

Those words from C’s pediatric GI doctor took me by surprise. I knew my two-year-old was small. I knew he had severe feeding problems. I never imagined what life would have in store for us. Last year, C had a g-tube surgically placed and we started giving him four bottles of formula each day. His behavior was erratic. I noticed sugar highs and lows. I knew there had to be a better way to nourish him than to make him go through sugar crashes and fill him with artificial ingredients.

C’s feeding therapy group has been going really well. They’re exposing him to a lot of new foods, some of which he used to eat regularly but eliminated from his diet. One of those foods: apples. He likes to “make them crunch!” I can’t even explain the joy in my heart when he requests to eat apples!

Let’s see if Tom’s of Maine Anti-perspirant can keep up with me! #FreshNaturally #shop #cbias

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #CollectiveBias

I’ve been on a mission to switch to natural personal care products. With C’s health problems, using natural ingredients has become very important to me. I have made my own laundry detergent and my own toothpaste, but deodorant? I haven’t dared to go there yet. I naturally sweat – a lot – and I have a fear of putting a natural deodorant to the test only to have it fail me midday. I have a fear of smelling funky! What I did not realize is that Tom’s of Maine has an anti-perspirant. Game. On. Let’s get #FreshNaturally!

Review: Soft, Organic Cotton Sleep Sack by Merino Kids

Disclosure: I received this product complimentary for review purposes. The thoughts and opinions below are entirely my own.

There have been many times that a car trip overlaps with the kids’ bedtimes. We often put them in pajamas before we drive home, but we still need to put them into sleep sacks when we get back home. I didn’t know that a car-seat compatible sleep sack existed until I received this Merino Kids Organic Cotton Sleep Sack for review. They actually have a patented safety belt aperture that allows the freedom to move baby from car seat to stroller to crib without disrupting sleep patterns. Very cool.

Celebrating warm weather parties with Tastefully Simple Caramel Macchiato Frappé Mix

Disclosure: As a blogger for Tastefully Simple, I receive compensation and product for review purposes. The opinions below are entirely my own.

We had 12 adults at C and Baby Jo’s birthday party last weekend. I wanted to serve up a fun, out of the ordinary beverage that they would enjoy. Hubster and I are big frappé fans so it was only fitting that we would utilize this Tastefully Simple Caramel Macchiato Frappé Mix. I have to admit that after prepping for a joint birthday party with 12 adults and nine children in attendance, I was thankful for a beverage that was very quick and easy to prepare.

Putting All Of Our Memories in One Place with Blinkbuggy

Disclosure: I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Blinkbuggy. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.

Baby Jo is turning one tomorrow. I cannot believe that one year has passed already. I may or may not be in denial! ;) With everything that has happened this past year, I sometimes feel guilty that I wasn’t able to soak in her first year adequately. We were so preoccupied with C’s medical needs – trips to the hospital, countless tests, doctors, therapy. Even the daily tube feedings take a lot of additional time. I wonder if Baby Jo feels a little lost in translation as we run around to various appointments and the like. On the other hand, it’s the “normal” that she’s come to know.

Over the next four weeks, I’ll be actively participating in the community. I’d love for you to join me!

Get a great deal on event tickets with ScoreBig!

Disclosure: I received a credit to make a purchase on ScoreBig for the purpose of this review. The thoughts and opinions below are entirely my own.

ScoreBig

When Hubster and I were dating, we went to NFL games, NBA games, MLB games and hockey games. We bought concert tickets and even went to a few theater productions. It wasn’t until later, when we were married and living on a tighter budget, that we realized we weren’t able to attend all of the events we wanted because the ticket prices were higher than we could afford. If there had only been a place where we could name the price we were willing to pay and get an instant answer. If only there was a place that offered no fees and free delivery. That’s right – there is. ScoreBig offers tickets that are always below box office price, up to 60 percent below face value.

As close to homemade baby food as you can get with Beech-Nut’s new just gentle cooking™.

Disclosure: I am participating in a review program with Beech-Nut and MomSelect. Although I am receiving product and compensation for this post, the thoughts and opinions below are entirely my own.

just gentle cooking: The New Beech-Nut line of baby food

I’m one of those moms that is a little obsessive about knowing what is going into my children’s mouths. I was already like this when C was a baby, but now that he’s been through all of his health issues I’m even more adamant about proper nutrition and zero additives. For the most part, I made both of my kids’ baby food; but there were occasions when I didn’t have time or it wasn’t possible to travel with a bunch of homemade baby food. Beech-Nut has answered the call of moms like me who are looking to take all of the added junk out of baby food and give our babies real, natural ingredients just like we would make.

Cutie P’Tubies Review & FLASH Giveaway: Making tubies cute one pad at a time!

Cutie P'Tubies

It doesn’t seem to matter which barrier cream we use, how tight C’s g-tube button is, or how active he is…fluid leaks out regardless. We were using gauze for a long time. That always fell off if we didn’t use tape, but if we used tape then C’s skin would break out. I eventually gave up and didn’t put any dressing around it, resulting in some stains in that area of his shirts. During a late night Pinterest session, I came across some adorable g-tube pads. I didn’t even know that these existed! I clicked through to the Cutie P’Tubies Etsy store and found the motherlode of cute for G tube pads, J tube pads, Cecostomy pads and Trach pads.

In an age of Facebook announcements, Instagram pics and tweets, I find myself yearning for the personal touch of a paper wedding invitation, birthday card, photo card or birth announcement. Because 13-year-old girls like Griselda Shouldn’t Be Subjected to Gang Rape. #LocustEffect

Disclosure: As a member of the #LocustEffect launch team, I received an advance copy of this book for review purposes. The thoughts and opinions below are entirely my own.

Thirteen-year-old girls shouldn’t be plucked off the street on their way to church. It’s safe to say that Griselda’s abductors had no fear of prosecution for their crime. Why? Because the law enforcement system in Guatemala, like many in the developing world, are corrupt and of no use in protecting the poor. Impoverished victims cannot pay bribes or afford numerous trips to police offices and courts. For 4 billion people in the world, every part of the justice system is broken – police, prosecutors, courts. It doesn’t work. Gary A. Haugen writes in The Locust Effect, “Sadly, the public justice systems in the developing world not only fail to protect the poor from violence, but they actually perpetrate violence, protect perpetrators, and make poor people less safe.”

Tastefully Simple Fabulous Fudge™ Review and Giveaway!

Disclosure: As a blogger for Tastefully Simple, I receive compensation and product for review purposes. The opinions below are entirely my own.

There are few things like the holidays that bring about sensory memories. For me, it’s the memories of big snowflakes falling from the sky, singing Christmas carols in the car while looking at Christmas lights, feeling the warmth of a peppermint mocha in my hands, and the smell of my mom’s maple fudge. That fudge is set out next to the Christmas cookies every year and it disappears pretty quickly! Nothing can compare to Mom’s fudge, but Tastefully Simple has come really close.

Review: Boogie Wipes

Ever struggle to get the crusty boogers off your sick child’s nose?  I certainly did.  C would get so angry with us when we tried to wipe his nose.  He’d flail, kick, cry and shake his head wildly.  Then I remembered hearing about how great Boogie Wipes are.  My practical side was skeptical – wouldn’t a wet washcloth work just as well?  After fighting C for two days during his latest cold, I decided to give the Boogie Wipes a try.

Review: Magid Disposable Nitrile Gloves

Cleaning – it’s a dirty job, but we all need to do it.  Now that we have a moving, grooving child in our home, I find myself cleaning a lot.  I enjoy the sparkly sheen of a clean home, but I don’t like how cleaning chemicals dry out my skin.  While I clean the bathroom, I like to wear disposable gloves to protect my skin from harsh chemicals.  I like that I can peel off the nastiness of bathroom grime and put the glove in the garbage when I’m done.  I received a box of 100 disposable nitrile gloves from Magid Gloves & Safety Manufacturing Company LLC for review and got to work testing them!

Motherlove Diaper Rash and Thrush Salve Review

After being very pleased with the Motherlove Nipple Cream while breastfeeding, the kind folks at Motherlove sent me their Diaper Rash & Thrush salve to try.  I’m so glad that they did!

C typically does not have any diaper rash; however, he’s had quite a bit of redness since he started teething.  We avoid changing C’s diaper during the night because it causes him to wake up too much.  By the morning, his little butt is red.  We started applying Motherlove Diaper Rash & Thrush salve before bed and also when he wakes up.  The redness has significantly diminished in the past two weeks.  In fact, on most days C does not have any diaper rash.  We apply the salve even when his bootie isn’t red for preventative measures.
