The playoffs are one of my favorite times of the year! My husband and I are huge football fans and had the privilege of attending our team’s divisional playoff game this month. There is nothing like the energy in a packed stadium when your team wins! Even though our team won’t participate in the Big Game, we’re still excited to party on Game Day. I like heading to our local Pick ‘n Save to stock up on everything I need for our favorite Game Day appetizers. I’ll be making Bacon-Wrapped Dates!
C likes to check out all the lights on Pick ‘n Save‘s ceiling while I instruct him to keep his head inside of the cart at all times. I selected maple bacon as well as regular, uncured bacon so that I could make both Maple Bacon-Wrapped Dates and Pepper Bacon Wrapped Dates. I like to offer options to please spicy and sweet palates! You will also need pitted dates, pepper, toothpicks and – if you want to make your maple dates extra sweet – maple syrup. If you are cooking for a large crowd, you will need two packages of dates.
Grab a handful of toothpicks and soak them in a cup of water while you prepare the dates. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
Cut your bacon in half cross-wise.
Tightly wrap each date in one piece of bacon. Secure with toothpick.
Place the bacon-wrapped dates on a baking sheet. For Pepper Bacon-Wrapped Dates, sprinkle pepper as desired. Optional (not pictured): if you want your Maple Bacon-Wrapped Dates extra sweet, drizzle them with maple syrup.
Bake for 10 minutes at 400 degrees. Turn over, then bake for another 10 minutes. These are done when the aroma has you salivating and the bacon looks crispy. Flip on the game, serve these with your snacks and appetizers and enjoy! Since I challenged myself to a grain-free year, I will be passing up a lot of Game Day goodies. With these Bacon-Wrapped Dates to indulge in, I won’t even miss the other snacks! Which flavor would you like to try? What Game Day goodies will you stock up on at Pick ‘n Save?
