I posted this picture of myself this week. It’s a candid selfie of my son and me laughing while playing in the leaves. I can’t stop looking at it. I keep scrolling to find it every time I open Instagram. It mesmerizes me. You know what I see?
I see joy. There’s joy in her eyes. She doesn’t realize it, but it’s there. She’s been lost so many times, but she’s coming back again.
It’s like this song, “Mended,” by Matthew West:
Look in the mirror, but you find someone
You never thought you’d be
Oh, but I can still recognize
The one I love in your tear stained eyes
I know you might not see it now
So lift your eyes to me
She once was lost, but now she’s found. The woman in this picture is finding herself again. Emotionally, mentally, spiritually.
I can’t stop looking at this picture. I want to embody that joy every day. I’m not there yet, but when I look at this picture I know I am getting closer.
