Whenever I do laundry, I question if there are only four people in our household. How do we use so many clothes? They’re lucky I am a stain-busting superhero who keeps them smelling fresh! My secret is Member’s Mark® Ultimate Clean Fresh Clean Detergent, which removes stains the first time. The newly upgraded formulas provide even more stain fighting and whitening/brightening power to give your family superior cleaning performance at an exceptional value. Yes, I am the weird mom who enjoys laundry. My laundry room, on the other hand, was so disorganized and unsightly that it gave me anxiety. I have slowly updated each room in our home since we purchased it two years ago. This laundry room/half bathroom remained untouched and it showed. I am almost ashamed to share this before picture with you!
Isn’t that terrible?! Wire shelving is not my first choice. Items sit unevenly, small items fall through the space between the wires, and I prefer simple, clean lines. Our home is more than 10 years old, but this room had never been painted. Scuff marks and dents lined the walls. It was time for a fresh start. A neutral gray flows throughout our home and was the natural choice for our half bathroom / laundry room combo. I tossed a drop cloth over our laundry machines and started painting.
Once the paint was dry, it was time to give our wire shelves a makeover! You may want to keep your washer and dryer covered for the rest of the project to protect them from falling dust or debris. Here are the materials required to upgrade your wire shelving and organize your laundry room. The size of your room will determine how many storage cubes, boards and trim you will need.
Storage cubes: $52
Pre-finished 1/4″ wood boards and 4″ trim boards: $41
Total cost of materials: $99
Measure your wire shelves and cut the pre-finished boards accordingly. You will want the boards to come to the very edge of the shelf while allowing space to align the trim board. Next, cut your trim boards to size.
Secure the trim boards with wood screws and washers. This step is customizable to where you’d like the trim board to sit. We left a slight lip on our shelves to keep our Member’s Mark laundry detergent and storage bins secure.
When the trim boards are attached, you can organize your laundry items into the new storage cubes. Remember those clean, simple lines that I love? Putting these storage cubes on our upgraded wire shelves brought me joy! Check out the final reveal of our laundry room makeover:
Ta-da! I can’t stop walking into my laundry room. It’s clean and beautiful! Being a stain-busting superhero just got more exciting.
