I’ve partnered with Festival Foods to bring you tips for life after Whole 30. The thoughts and opinions below are entirely my own.
You survived a Whole 30! Now what? You want to avoid your old eating habits and maintain your healthier new relationship with food. Whole 30 is strict, but it produces results mentally, emotionally and physically. Continue that success with these tips for life after Whole 30!
Reintroduce foods slowly
Avoid introducing noncompliant foods all at once to see how your body reacts to each food you eliminated. Lauren, a Registered Dietitian at Festival Foods, suggests starting with the food you felt like you could not live without during your Whole 30. You’ll quickly find out if your body can handle your favorite food!
Designate a food prep day
Spending a few hours preparing vegetables and protein can set you up for success throughout the week. I like to designate some time on Sunday or Monday to cut up vegetables, cook and portion out meat, and wash fruit so I can easily prepare my snacks and meals during the busy week.
Select quality ingredients
Whole 30 inspired you to try new produce and select the highest quality of ingredients in your budget. Keep those new healthy habits by looking at food labels and selecting quality foods. Shop the extensive organic department at Festival Foods, find organic meats in the meat department, and look at NuVal nutrition ratings to determine the health score of food items. The higher the NuVal number, the greater the nutritional value.
Create a meal plan
Menu planning was critical to my Whole 30 success. I searched Pinterest for inspiration, created grocery lists based on the meals I wanted to make, and had food prepped for those inevitable busy nights when you don’t have time to cook.
Aim for “half plate plants”
You learned how to prioritize vegetables and fruits during Whole 30. Consciously try to fill half your plate with plant-based foods for each meal! To find inspiration and support, use the hashtag #halfplateplants on social.
Don’t forget how awesome you felt during the second half of your Whole 30! With proper planning, you can turn one month of success into long-lasting healthy habits.
