There are a few things in life that I aim to routinely practice: drop everything and cuddle at the kids’ request, savor a delicious cup of coffee daily, and take every opportunity to appreciate others. Greeting cards are a beautiful way to express your thoughts to people in your life – and it doesn’t take much time to do so! Managing a busy family schedule is difficult, but expressing love, kindness, and appreciation doesn’t need to be. Our family enjoys giving and receiving these sentiments on Valentine’s Day and throughout the year, and I created a Reclaimed Wood Art Display Board to show off our favorite gifts and art all year long.
We discovered a huge display of American Greetings cards at Walmart! There is a card or gift for everyone, so it’s an easy way to knock off your entire list in one shopping trip. A new selection of coupons are an adorable way to add a personal touch. We selected coupons, stickers, gift bags, tissue paper, and greeting cards to send love to all the important people in our lives this Valentine’s Day.
Where do you display your greeting cards and children’s artwork? We didn’t have a designated place. I wanted something beautiful, functional, and accessible for my kids to hang up their favorite cards and pieces of art. I found this rough piece of reclaimed wood to upcycle. Those are my favorite pieces, because I can just imagine the stories they’d have to tell. Just look at that character!
With a handheld sander, I smoothed out this piece of reclaimed wood and prepared it for staining. Two coats of espresso stain and one coat of poly sealed the board and gave it a slightly shiny finish. Large clothespins were the perfect size for this project. I spray painted them a metallic gold and used hot glue to attach them to the wood. Our greeting cards are going to look gorgeous on this display!
I thought my kids would enjoy a designated spot for their creations, and these letters spelling, “art,” fit the bill. I purchased white letters and customized them with mint chalk paint. They are a nice complement to the gold and espresso on the display board.
Our Valentine’s Day greetings, coupons and kids’ artwork are on display! It’s so fun to experience the magic of the holiday through the eyes of a child. I enjoy their excitement when they receive a card and their pride in gifting a card and artwork to someone else.
Set your art display board on a window frame or hang as a piece of wall decor. Upcycled items tell a unique story and fit beautifully with your existing decor, as you can customize every part of your project! Which colors would you choose?
