Our family once hovered in survival mode. We were gifted grace, prayers, thoughts, love and time from others to help us function while our son was in and out of the hospital and our daughter was an infant. It was a humbling experience that showed us the power of family and community. That time in our lives transformed us and giving back became an important part of our family life. We know the power that giving of your time or energy can have, and we look for big and small ways to do that for others.
b+b® has a mission that aligns with ours. This family-owned health and wellness company has donated medicines to a network of 1,000+ free health clinics and rural health centers that serve 5 million patients in need. When you buy ONE, they give ONE to help those affected by homelessness, extreme poverty and natural disasters. b+b acetaminophen is an extra strength pain reliever and fever reducer that contains no red dye 40, no gluten ingredients, no aspirin, and no caffeine. It’s designed to temporarily relieve minor aches and pains (use product as directed) and features on-the-go packaging that is child-resistant and includes rounded edges to prevent cuts. Use this store locator to find b+b products at a Walmart near you. It comes in two sizes – I’m going to keep one for myself!
Our children both attend center-based autism therapy and work with many different staff on a daily basis. These wonderful people help our children learn and grow, and it is impossible to measure the impact they have on our family. I try to find small ways to show our appreciation throughout the year. The holiday season provides the perfect opportunity for thoughtful gifts! Here is a therapist survival kit gift with a handmade wood transfer ornament that you can gift to your therapists this holiday season.
The ideal survival kit offers essentials along with ways for a therapist to pamper themselves after a day of caring for children. Comfy socks and a mineral soak to pamper. Hand sanitizer and a stain removal stick for messes encountered. Lotion for hands that are washed repeatedly all day long. Lip balm to replenish while carefully coaching children through meltdowns and teaching them valuable life skills. b + b acetaminophen for the aches, pains and headaches caused by the active hours and stress that accompanies this work. Coffee and chocolate – essentials on challenging days!
Place your items in a glass jar and set aside while you create your wood transfer ornaments. I created this graphic, “Not all Heroes Wear Capes,” to transfer onto the wood ornaments (find the free printable HERE – you can adjust the image size to fit your needs). You will need to print these on a laser printer for the transfer to work. Here is a complete list of the supplies you will need for the wood transfer ornament project:
Matte Gel Transfer
2 Sponge Craft Brushes
Matte Decoupage Glue
Wood Ornaments (I used wood puzzle pieces)
Cut out your images to the size of the wood ornament. Use a craft brush to apply Matte Gel Transfer to the wood and to the image.
Place image onto the wood and smooth out with a hard edge (a credit card works well for this). Allow to dry for 24 hours. Then wet the image and gently rub away the paper in a circular motion with your fingers or a towel.
Once the wood is dry, apply one coat of matte decoupage glue, allowing time to dry in between.
Tie a string of jute to the ornament and you’re finished!
This Therapist Survival Kit is perfect for any time of the year, but is especially fun to give during the holiday season as we look for ways to appreciate the important people in our lives.
